Fics You Can Find Here |
|
|
Preferred genres. This is a dark fanfic archive. I love darkness in fiction and I strongly believe that Tragedy is the sister of Beauty. Also, I've always been fascinated the evil-but-not-beyond-redemption type of villain, so sad, depressing, antagonist-centered fics always have a chance with me... It does not mean romance and happy ends are not allowed, but the prevailing spirit in the stories you'll find here will be gloomy. Fandoms. The site is not restricted to one fandom: as my pen name suggests, I consider Star Wars the greatest tale ever told and I've been deeply sunk in potterholism since the day I discovered J.K. Rowling's brilliant books, so the stories archived here concentrate mostly (though not exclusively) on these two sources of inspiration. Short vs. long. I definitely prefer shorties, vignettes and poems to novel-length stories, both as a reader and as a webmaster. It also makes me happy to host relatively unknown fics/authors as they are more in need of promotion than fandom celebrities. That said, I admit hosting some really famous pieces for a reason as simple as liking them. ;o) What about poetry? There are two kinds of poems in this archive: those I have written and those I wish I had written. ;-) As for content, it's the same as with fiction. As for form, I'm a traditionalist who insists on using rhyme, rhythm, alliteration and other things held outdated in the 21st century. As for free verse, I completely agree with Robert Frost that it's like playing tennis with the net down. ;-) To be just, I don't say free verse can't be good, it just isn't my cup of tea. |

Hosting. I do host stories by other authors, as I've never favoured archives featuring but one person's work – I find them too monotonous. And to be self-critical, who on earth would be interested in a site with my work only? I'm neither good enough or prolific enough to supply material for a fanfic site. On the other hand, I'm by no means as self-critical as to resist posting my own things here – there's no place like your own website to do that. ;) Submissions. I know it's not the standard approach, and I'm really not particularly happy about it, but I can't afford receiving submissions from people. *sigh* When I come across a fic I like, I send a request to the author. There are three reasons why I proceed this way – first, I wouldn't have time to read submission (blame real life, that old bastard), second, it would be too frustrating to turn people down and third, it would rob me of my favourite sport, which is fiction-hunting. |

Browser compatibility. Silvermoon isn't a site optimized for just one browser. It does use some MSIE 5.5+ specific features (coloured scrollbars, coloured horizontal rulers and one nice transition effect), but these are of purely aesthetical nature and have no impact whatsoever on the site as such. It also uses Cascading Style Sheets, so it won't display correctly in browsers that can't read them. It definitely works in MSIE 5.0+ (I'd be extremely happy to hear from anybody using MSIE 4.0 to learn if it works there), Opera 5.0+, Mozilla 0.9.3+ and Netscape 6.0+, sadly not in Netscape 4.7, may it rest in peace. 8-( I've also tested it in various minor browsers and it worked all right. Should you experience any problems, or happen to know about better solutions how to make this page browser-safe, please e-mail me at webmaster@helenvader.net. Screen resolution and colour depth. I recommend 800x600 or 1024x768 || 24bit, but the site should work fine with lower and higher screen resolutions and colour depths. Platforms. This is a hard one. I have no reason to believe Silvermoon doesn't work on different platforms, but since I've never seen a computer running on anything else than good old Windows, it's hard for me to tell. My Counted! statistics fills me with hope when showing that some people visiting my site use other OS. I'd love to hear from non-Windows users if my site worked in their computer. |

Disclaimer. You know the stuff. I'm really no good at writing these things, so I hope it's enough when I say that Gladiator, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Lord of the Rings, Phantom of the Opera, Silmarillion and Star Wars belong to their respective owners and neither I or any of the authors whose stories I host claim their ownership. This is a fan site, and nobody makes a dime here. Copyright. However, the writing style and creative ideas used in the individual stories belong to their respective authors and stories may not be taken and published elsewhere without their consent. Original poems are copyrighted by their authors and may not be taken and published elsewhere without their consent. I'm the author of the webdesign, but I have nothing against taking inspiration from the html code (one of the greatest ways to learn). |
