LEAVE-TAKING
Written by Helen Vader

The lordly steeds of the sea
Were swiftly sailing
Away from this land forlorn
Where the wind was wailing

Behold! a host of clouds
In haste was sweeping
I wept and the sunless sky
Was with me weeping

Author's Note:

I'm afraid the only notable thing about this piece is that it consists exclusively of words of Germanic origin as it dates back to my obsession with Norse mythology, Old English poetry and alliterative verse. I don't think it's worth much, but it's important for me, since it was the first poem in which I mixed rhyme and alliteration, a combination I've been fascinated with ever since.
