FAQ

Fiction and Poetry Requirements.

Preferred genres. This is a dark fanfic archive. I love darkness in fiction and I strongly believe that in art, Tragedy is the sister of Beauty. Also, I've always been fascinated the evil-but-not-beyond-redemption type of villain, so sad, depressing, antagonist-centered fics always have a chance with me... It does not mean romance and happy ends are strictly forbidden, but the prevailing spirit in the writing archived here will be gloomy.

What about poetry? There are two kinds of poems in this archive: those I have written and those I wish I had written. ;-) As for content, it's the same as with fiction. As for form, I'm a traditionalist who insists on using rhyme, rhythm, alliteration and other things held outdated in the 21st century. As for free verse, there was a time when I agreed with Robert Frost that it's like playing tennis with the net down. ;-) These days my view have changed, but I still I don't see Silvermoon as becoming a haven for freeverse poetry in the near future.

Fandoms. The site is not restricted to one fandom: as my pen name suggests, I consider Star Wars the greatest tale ever told and I love J.K. Rowling's clever books, so the stories archived here concentrate mostly (though not exclusively) on these two sources of inspiration. Other fandoms include Lord of the Rings (and other Tolkien's writings), Phantom of the Opera, Gladiator and His Dark Materials trilogy. There's also some original poetry.

Length. I strogly prefer shorties, vignettes and poems to multi-chaptered stories, both as a reader and as a webmaster. This fact together with the need to save server space led me to a decision not to host novel-length fics. I also have to admit it makes me happy to host relatively unknown fics/authors as they are more in need of promotion than fandom classics/celebrities. That said, I admit hosting some really fandom-famous pieces for a reason as simple as liking them. ;o)

Hosting Policy.

Hosting. I do host stories by other authors, as I've never favoured archives featuring but one person's work – I find them too monotonous. And to be self-critical, who on earth would be interested in a site with my work only? I'm neither good enough or prolific enough to supply material for a fanfic site. On the other hand, I'm by no means as self-critical as to resist posting my own things here – there's no place like your own website to do that. ;)

Submissions. I know it's not the standard approach, and I'm really not particularly happy about it, but I can't afford receiving submissions from people. *sigh* When I come across a fic I like, I send a request to the author. There are two reasons why I chose to proceed this way – first, I wouldn't have time to read submission (blame real life, that old bastard) and second, it would be too frustrating to turn people down.

BEHIND THE NAME

Name. I'm ashamed to admit it, but this site got its name from a fanfic I was writing at the time I started to be interested into HTML. The natural consequence was that I wanted to launch a site of my own where I might host whatever I write. The fanfic was named after a black-petalled flower which only bloomed at fullmoon; in my Potterverse, the silver material invisibility cloaks are made of was woven from the thread of this plant. Ahem. The fanfic suffered from all possible beginner's flaws, including a Mary Sue, a redeemed!Voldy and lots of other wonders. Fortunately, I saw reason very soon and decided not to ever finish the monstrosity, but I kept the name. Whoever wants to see the said flower can see my picture of it here.
